Anemia of Pregnancy is a condition where a pregnant woman has a lower than normal number of red blood cells or the red blood cells do not have enough hemoglobin, leading to inadequate oxygen delivery to the fetus and mother.

1. Iron-deficiency anemia

3. Vitamin B12-deficiency anemia


Causes:


1. Increased demand for iron and folate during pregnancy

2. Poor diet

3. Nausea and vomiting

4. Multiple pregnancies (twins, triplets)


Symptoms:


1. Fatigue

2. Weakness

3. Pale skin

4. Shortness of breath

5. Dizziness

6. Headaches


Diagnosis:


1. Complete blood count (CBC)

2. Blood smear

3. Iron level tests

4. Folate and vitamin B12 level tests


Treatment:


1. Iron supplements

2. Folate supplements

3. Vitamin B12 supplements

4. Dietary changes (e.g., increasing iron-rich foods)

5. Blood transfusions (in severe cases)


Complications:


1. Preterm labor

2. Low birth weight

3. Increased risk of maternal mortality

4. Increased risk of fetal mortality

5. Poor fetal development
