Anal Abscess is a painful, pus-filled pocket in the anal region, often caused by bacterial infection.


Causes

1. Bacterial infection (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus)

2. Blocked anal glands

3. Trauma or injury

4. Inflammatory bowel disease (e.g., Crohn's disease)


Symptoms

1. Severe anal pain

2. Swelling and redness around the anus

3. Pus or discharge from the anus

4. Fever

5. Chills


Diagnosis

1. Physical exam

2. Imaging tests (e.g., CT scan, MRI)

3. Anoscopy or sigmoidoscopy


Treatment

1. Incision and drainage (I&D) to drain pus

2. Antibiotics to treat bacterial infection

3. Pain management with medication

4. Warm sitz baths to promote healing


Complications

1. Recurrence

2. Fistula formation

3. Abscess rupture

4. Infection spread to surrounding tissues


Prevention

1. Practice good hygiene

2. Avoid tight clothing

3. Maintain a healthy diet

4. Avoid straining during bowel movements
